The White House is the home of Annie and Christopher Nicholl. Over the years, originally in London, we have gained a wealth of experience in catering for our guests.
Annie, as well as being a superb cook, is a successful garden designer - www.nichollgardendesign.co.uk (site currently being re-designed/under construction).
Christopher is a teacher of business and social English to foreign students (TEFL), - www.learningenglishonholiday.co.uk.
We have lived in this area of the Wiltshire/Berkshire border since leaving London in 1984 in order to give our two children (now grown up with homes of their own) a better quality of life. .jpg)
In 2006, we bought and extensively renovated The White House in the hamlet of Little Bedwyn, adding two additional, luxurious en-suite shower rooms so that we could provide the very best B&B accommodation in the superb setting of this picturesque area.
Little Bedwyn dates all the way back to the year 778 – yes, 778!
“Little Bedwyn was a result of a split in 778 of a Royal Estate encompassing the whole of a larger area that was the combined territory of Grafton and Bedwyn. Little Bedwyn was referred to as Estbedwinda in 1177 and Lyttelbedwyn in 1547 but was principally known as East Bedwin until the 19th century.” (www.kennet.gov.uk/little_bedwyn_-_approved_statement.pdf).
The White House, a former vicarage, fronts on to the towpath of the Kennet & Avon Canal which joins the river Thames at Reading and thus links London with Bristol as it meanders through some of the most beautiful countryside in England. (see How to find us).
The railway links London with Exeter and the far West of England as well as providing a local commuter service for Newbury, Reading and London (only 1 hour and 10 minutes away by train and a little longer by car on the M4) (see How to find us).
Annie and Christopher look forward to welcoming you to their home.
P.S. Just in case you are allergic to cats, ours are very definitely permanently banned from our guests’ bedrooms!
